Fashion is a game that has to be played seriously. The clothes don’t have to suit you; you have to suit the clothes. This year, The Zambia Fashion week fell on the 19-21st of October under the theme ‘Designs beyond the ordinary’ pretty Dearing right? Over 50 designers showcased this year along with the Vodafone-JUMP designers that won the competition.
Some of the designers that showcased this year include Ronnie Musonda, Richard Kasanda, Muleya Kalaluka, Duncan Kanyembo, Tendai Lwenje, Martha Kabaso, Yve Katongo, Gloria Mwila, Teta Vundamina, Thandiwe Alifo, Lusungu Mudondo, Nelly Chama, Samfo, Claire and guest designer Khosi Nkosi. This year celebrity guest and South Africa’s TV personality Jessica Nkhosi made an appearance.

It was so hard to pick the most Dearing designs, out of the book but yet creative. In no particular order, the following designers caught my attention and hope they did for you as well.
1. Petros Giannakakis
Jaw drops! Carry on. I love everything about this, literally everything!!!!!!! ‘Designs beyond the ordinary’ well depicted. A mixture of different African prints, bold and beautiful. This is how you shut down the runway!
For more pictures check out Fortress Media Photography on facebook.
2. Lusungu Mudondo
Showcasing on day 3 of fashion week, Lusungu Mudondo’s designs had us by the edge of our seats. It was classy, over the top, mixed with an afroscentric vibe and cheik.
3. Richard Kasanda
Showcasing on Day 1 of fashion week, MK72 collection by Richard Kasanda brought the heat on the runway. Alchemy brought out the boldness of gold and a monochrome palette. His collection is befitting for a King and Queen. What I specifically loved about this collection were the monochrome jackets and over the top gowns, need I say more? Peep through.
4. Khosi Nkosi
Khosi Nkosi was this year’s guest designer. Khosi Nkosi garments are inspired by what the brand essence stands for; Strong, Modern, Worldly, Nubile woman that loves and respects herself and pays attention to detail. Khosi Nkosi awed the audience and brought urban glamour mixed with beautiful bold prints fit for a queen!
5. Yve Katongo
One of my personal favorites for the night. She had men in skirts and eccentric long gowns, in addition her models where holding doves in their hands perhaps it’s a symbolization of power and beauty or perhaps a fashion statement for the runway.
6. Mwewa Samforosa Mundubi
Stiches by Samfo is a brand owned by Mwewa. She believes in the phrase “A woman like the sun must always shine brighter”. Her designs definitely shined brighter than diamonds and gold.
7. Teta Vundamina
Tetenge by Teta Vundamina was definitely a must see at this year’s fashion week. Depicting just how stylish the metrosexual man can be, this collection was sheer perfection!
8. Vodafone Challenge
Vodafone-JUMP engaged with different designers at this year’s fashion week to help and create a platform for them to showcase their creative designs using the Vodafone colors. This platform brought in new faces and exposed the diversity in creativity among each designer.
Super Java had a competition for upcoming designers. The winners were Duncan Kanyembo (Blink Designs), Kabaso Nkanda (Nkanda Yatu), Yve katongo.
Other favorite designers included Anna Mwale Mabula, Donalia, Martha Kabaso, and many others. Be sure to check out Fortress Media and The Zambia fashion week for more.
Till next year,
Thank you for reading.
